At a customer site that showed no sign of microbiological problems, a bioeXile application prior to the system cleaning and chlorination revealed the presence of two types of bacteria commonly associated with problems caused by biofilm: Pseudomonas and Sulfate Reducing Bacteria (SRBs). SRBs live in the oxygen deficient, anaerobic conditions (found under biofilms) and are responsible for MIC. An SRB test run at the end of the bioclean with bioeXile was negative, showing that they had been eliminated. Hidden pathogens are released by bioeXile and subsequently killed by biocide.

Left unchecked, biofilm deposits cause serious problems in cooling water systems including corrosion damage, heat transfer losses, reduced flow and the transmission of disease. Routine bio-monitoring is important, but with current methods, it’s difficult to know whether your system is under control.
Dip slides take 2 to 3 days to develop and only measure a small fraction of the bacteria in the bulk water. ATP testing is expensive to use and the results can be misleading.
Both methods require manual sampling with readings that are often difficult to interpret. By the time inspections or equipment readings indicate you have a biofilm issue, serious problems could have developed that significantly impacts the reliability and efficiency of your systems.
